7 Ways to Attract More Visitors to Your Website or Blog

Creating a website or blog is only a small part to the success of an online business. The biggest part is visitors. Without them, you have nothing. Of course you can count on a few visits from family and friends, giving you support, but we all know this isn't enough. To have a successful presence on the Internet, you need others to come to your site. Doing any of the ideas below will guarantee an increase in visitors to your site or blog. At first it might be a trickle but then it will grow more and more, little by little.

1. Be Honest - The number one way to attract new visitors to your spot on the Internet is to tell the truth. The Internet is a scary place, full of lies. If you are straightforward about what you know, people will trust you. You can pull the wool over someone's eyes once, maybe twice, but then they are gone. If you tell the truth, you can keep people coming back forever!

2. Blogs - If you have a website, creating a blog is a good step to bring people to it. For example, if you are reading this article right now, how did you get here? Through my blog titled: Learning a Lot About Becoming a Successful Blogger?  Or from somewhere else like...

3. Other People's Blogs - This is key. Most times when  you comment on someone else's blog, you are allowed to leave your link. You'll notice some people leave comments like, "I like that post" but I don't recommend this. If you offer knowledgeable information on your comment, people will be more apt to click the link to find out more of what you know. Also, make sure your comments relate to what the blog was about. Just google what you are looking for like this: Blogs AND Alzheimer's. And this will get you started.

4. Anchor Text -  I recently read an article that changed the way I link most of my information. It was written by Chris Brogan, a blogger on social marketing. He pointed out the difference between linking the way I just did and linking with a website address like http://alzheimershelpfromhere2help.blogspot.com/ . The way he describes it is if you link using descriptive keywords, you are telling Google and other search engines that people looking for "social marketing" might be interested in this page. If you link using the URL, you are telling search engines people interested in that specific website might be interested. It makes sense then to try and use both kinds throughout articles.

5. Facebook - Facebook is a great way to reach out. It is a social network but it can go past that. Create a page for your business like I did. I created Here 2 Help Services Fan Page as a way to reach out and share my latest publications. I use it strictly to announce these, but you can schedule events for people to join, make announcements, send emails, and more. The possibilities are endless. And Facebook is popular! It is the number one searched keyword on the web! You can read my article: Facebook: An Effective Marketing Tool for Your Business and the directions on how to setup a Facebook Page.  Another benefit to Facebook, that I didn't write about, is the ability to post on other people's pages. If I provide a helpful link, people follow it.

6. Twitter - Similar to Facebook, you can let your followers know what's going on. There is a limit to the amount of characters you can use, and the features are limited, but some people prefer this approach of gathering their information. I use Twitter primarily  to announce my latest publications.

7. Word of Mouth - This goes a long way and works everywhere! Word of Mouth happens on  blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and in the brick and mortar world. If you are honest, do a good job, and help others, they will talk about you. They will also talk about you if you do something wrong. Word of Mouth doesn't have to come just from your public. You can talk about it. Pass out business cards with the URL address. Publish your address on everything that goes out in your business: brochures, flyers, emails, letter head, etc. Be proud of what you've got and tell the world!

This is a small list but its full of helpful information to start building relationships and establishing a presence on the Internet. With every new person you have the potential to add them and people they tell about you! Impressions count, but you need to bring them there for that to even matter. I know a slow start is hard, but even if they come one at a time, they are coming. The more you do, the more you get. Good luck.
